Why is Gravity so Weak?So why does the force of gravity seem so weak? General relativity tells us that gravity warps all of space and is therefore sensitive to all the dimensions of space. We usually think of all of the dimensions of space as the three spatial dimensions we live in. But what if gravity is spread out over more than three dimensions, while stronger forces like electromagnetism are confined to just the three dimensions we perceive? This would make gravity seem weaker to us. The following movie explains this idea in more detail. Although this example was done using a two-dimensional universe, the same effect would be true when comparing four dimensions to three dimensions. The four dimensional field lines would be much more spread out than the three dimensional ones. |
